The whole of Gwynedd - 2021 Census:

Following the census in 2021 we see that there has been a decrease of 1% in the number of Welsh speakers in Gwynedd. The 2021 census reported that 73,560 people in Gwynedd, or 64.4% of the population, were able to speak Welsh, this is a decrease from the 77,000 in 2011.

Gwynedd has seen a reduction in the percentage of its Welsh speakers in the last 5 censuses. The 1981 census reported that 76.2% of the population spoke Welsh, by 2001 the figure had fallen to 69%. In the 2021 census there was a decrease in 3 of the specific age groups, the two oldest age groups of 65-79 years and 80+, and the youngest age group of 3-15 years, however, there was an increase in the other age groups.
