Welcome to the Menter Iaith Gwynedd website

Our aim is to increase the use of Cymraeg throughout Gwynedd. We intend to do this by ensuring that everyone has opportunities to use Cymraeg in all areas of their lives.

We believe that Welsh can belong to everyone and that the sense of belonging to the language, and to the area, needs to be nurtured to increase the use of Cymraeg across our communities.

We are developing plans in conjunction with communities and partners, which will:

• spread positive messages about the language
• give people opportunities to use Cymraeg naturally in new and diverse contexts
• provide practice and confidence building opportunities for those who are less willing to speak Cymraeg or are new speakers
• offer support to organisations, clubs, voluntary groups and community representatives to ensure that Cymraeg is central within our communities
• to raise awareness and understanding of the role everyone has to play in maintaining the language, and to spread the pride in Cymraeg as a living language
